Terry Hoage Vineyards "The 46" 2005 Grenache-Syrah Paso Robles
Famed football star Terry Hoage led the nation in interceptions with 12 in 1982, and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy balloting as a senior in '83. Hoage was recently inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame. He played pro ball for 13 seasons and led the NFL in interceptions in '88, and got a Super Bowl ring as a Redskin in '92. We were very fortunate to snag a small amount of "The 46", named after his famous defensive play, my supplier fumbled the timing of delivery into their warehouse and as a result only a lucky few of us that purchased the wine at a recent tasting got it in time for SB Sunday As of this writing I have 12 bottles of this dense, dark berried "trophy" wine to sell. First come, first served. 470 case produced.

Di Lisio Quarterback 2005 MCLaren Vale Australia
I met Tony De Lisio in July during my trip to Australia... the guy is a hoot and the only Aussie i met that prefers American football to Australian rules football. Quarterback is his homage to the game and is is also quarter parts of Grenache, Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz. Crisp, vibrant and layered with everything from cherry, raspberry, leather, spice and saddle notes, this wine will run circles around any party food you throw it. Like Terry Hoage's wine, I received 2 cases last week with the expectation to get more for Friday, instead I was told that there will be no more available till next week.

Jarhead Red
As we kick back and enjoy the simple pleasures of life like watching the Super Bowl with our friends and family, it would be nice to remember that thousands of miles from here brave fellow Americans are fighting for our peace and tranquility. As always, I'm offering Jarhead Red at cost when purchased by the case. The proceeds go towards an education fund for the children of fallen Marines.

Also, three very affordable $16 wines from Italy:
Argillae "Sinuoso" Rosso IGT Umbria 2005 Cabernet/Merlot blend A medium to full bodied red that shows spiced red and black berries on the nose and palate. Toasty oak flavors flow into mocha cherry notes in the finish.
Argillae Orvieto DOC. Umbria 2006 Malvasia/Trebbiano/Grechetto blend Crisp dry stone fruit on the nose leads to fleshy tropical and citrus notes on the palate. The finish is creamy smooth despite not seeing any oak or malo...a crowd pleaser!
Argillae Grechetto IGT. Umbria 2006 100% Grechetto Distinct candied apples on the nose followed by chewy green apple skin, zest and stone fruit on the palate. The finish is medium to long with a hint of spice notes. Think fish!

Sediment
A man walked into a bar and ordered a glass of white wine. He took a sip of the wine, then tossed the remainder into the bartender's face. Before the bartender could recover from the surprise, the man began weeping.
"I'm sorry," he said. "I'm really sorry. I keep doing that to bartenders. I can't tell you how embarrassing it is to have a compulsion like this."
Far from being angry, the bartender was sympathetic. Before long, he was suggesting that the man see an analyst about his problem. "I happen to have the name of a psychoanalyst," the bartender said. "My brother and my wife have both been treated by him, and they say he's as good as they get."
The man wrote down the name of the doctor, thanked the bartender, and left. The bartender smiled, knowing he'd done a good deed for a fellow human being.
Six months later, the man was back. "Did you do what I suggested?" the bartender asked, once again serving the man a glass of white wine.
"I certainly did," the man said. "I've been seeing the psychoanalyst twice a week." He took a sip of the wine. Then he threw the remainder into the bartender's face.
The flustered bartender wiped his face with a towel. "The doctor doesn't seem to be doing you any good," he sputtered.
"On the contrary," the man claimed, "he's done me a world of good."
"But you threw the wine in my face again!" the bartender exclaimed.
"Yes," the man replied. "But it doesn't embarrass me anymore!" |
